Avis Builders and Design is a licensed California general contractor, CSLB #1142220, classification B, General Building, current and active on the state register, with a $25,000 bond and workers’ compensation coverage on file.
We’re based in San Jose and work across Santa Clara County and the surrounding Bay Area. We’re a service-area business, so consultations happen at your property. The consultation is free, the work carries a labor warranty, financing is available through a third-party lender, and we offer senior and veteran discounts.
We manage every stage of a project: design, planning, permitting, project management and construction. Indoors, that means whole-house remodels, kitchens, bathrooms, ADUs, and room additions. Outdoors, it means full backyard remodels, decks, pergolas, gazebos, cabanas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, and exterior painting.

A general building contractor handles projects that need at least two unrelated building trades. A remodel that moves a wall, reroutes a drain, adds circuits and finishes in tile is exactly that, so one contractor can hold the whole contract and answer for it.
Work that needs its own specialty license is done by subcontractors who hold that license, scheduled and supervised by us.
The $25,000 bond is filed with the state as a condition of the license, and workers’ compensation is carried through the State Compensation Insurance Fund. Both appear on the public license record.
We’re the general contractor of record, so the permit, the inspection schedule, the order of the trades and the final punch list all stay with the same team.

OUR PROCESS
We come to your property, walk the space, and talk through what you want to change and what the house will allow.
What’s included, what isn’t, and any allowances, all in writing. Financing and any senior or veteran discount are applied here.
Layouts, elevations and the drawings the city expects. With 3D design, you can see the space before it’s built.
We submit the plans to your city or county and handle any correction comments.
Demolition, structural work, the trades, and the inspections while the walls are open, then insulation, drywall and finishes.
We walk the finished job with you and write down anything left. The project is complete when that list is closed out and signed.
