THE PROJECT
About this project
- Retaining wall to hold back the hillside soil
- Privacy fence above the retaining wall
- Three small decks attached to the house
- New front gates
This backyard remodel in Half Moon Bay brought several parts of the property together in one project. With a hillside rising behind the home, the work needed to address the soil above the yard as well as create more useful outdoor spaces around the house.
We built a retaining wall to hold back the hillside soil and help keep it from moving toward the property. A privacy fence above the wall added separation, giving the backyard a more enclosed, private feel.
Around the house, three small attached decks created individual places to step outside and enjoy the yard. Working with several smaller areas allowed the outdoor improvements to follow the shape of the home rather than revolve around one large deck.
New gates at the front completed the project, bringing the entrance into the same transformation. From the hillside boundary to the decks and front gates, each part had its own purpose, and together they made the outdoor space more usable and private.
