THE PROJECT

About this project

  • Glossy subway-style wall tile
  • Built-in shower niche with mosaic tile
  • New shower fixtures and a glass panel
  • Mosaic bathroom floor tile
  • Brown vanity with a black-framed mirror and sconces
  • Upgraded plumbing and electrical

This 5 × 8-foot bathroom remodel in San Mateo gave a small, dated bathroom a fresh look. The original room had white wall tile around the tub, a small oak vanity, and plain white floor tile.

We installed glossy subway-style wall tile around the tub and shower, with a built-in shower niche finished in mosaic tile. New shower fixtures and a glass panel keep the tub and shower practical for everyday use.

Mosaic floor tile runs across the bathroom, and a new vanity in a warm brown tone brings the design together, with a black-framed mirror and wall sconces above it.

Behind the walls, the renovation also included upgraded plumbing and electrical. The finished bathroom is cohesive and cozy, and it makes the most of every inch of a small room.

PROJECT QUESTIONS

Questions about this project

What was included in this San Mateo bathroom remodel?

The 5 × 8-foot bathroom got glossy subway-style wall tile, a built-in shower niche with mosaic tile, new shower fixtures and a glass panel, mosaic floor tile, a brown vanity, and upgraded plumbing and electrical.

Can a small 5 × 8 bathroom be remodeled without making it bigger?

Yes. A 5 × 8-foot bathroom is a common size, and a remodel can make it feel more open and work better without moving walls. Built-in niches, a glass panel instead of a curtain, and a well-sized vanity all help in a small room.

What is a shower niche?

A shower niche is a recessed shelf built into the shower wall to hold shampoo and soap. It is planned before the wall is tiled and waterproofed, so it stays watertight and sits flush with the tile.

Do you remodel bathrooms in San Mateo?
